Fires at The Wet Peatland

     The peatland which has wet land is not fires naturally, except in the unusual summer. It’s the same as Vietnam war, where the peatland was contaminated by chemicals and fired by napalm bomb. This fire was extinguished when it was middle in wet land.(Burning Issues 2013)      Recently many peatland wet forest have been being changed to be industrial forest by companies. In the process, it causes peatland became drain because of the making of canals. After being drain, peatland wet forest are missing the natural disposition, as like its character in organizing water way.this problem causes the number of fire cases increase.      Not only the below problem which can make the wet land become drain, but also excavation canals can cause it. The dryness happens in the surface and the inside of the peatland. If the fire comes from thr inside of peatland or called ground fire, so it will naturally happen without any influence of wind. ...

Three Level of Peatland Mature or Decomposition

     Peatland has the different in mature or decomposition. This case happen because many factors, there are circles of peatland, age of the peatland etc. From the paper that I have read, there are three level of peatland mature or decompotition. Fibric (unripe) Fibric or unripe is the category of peatland did not yet decayed. The material of this type is easy to know or familiar in our eyes. There are two characteristic of Fibric. First, the color of Fibric type this type is brown. Second, if we press the ground, we can fell the ground still to much of fiber, more than 75%. Hemik (half mature) Hemik or the peatland in half mature still a half processing to be perfect decayed. The material of this type is still familiar, but not easy to know just like Fibric type. The Hidrological System in Peatland

     The fungsion of Peatland as hydrological is to storage water. Unripe peatland (fibrik) be able to storage a lot of water, there are 500% until 1.000% from the weight of  moss. Natural peatland not only able to storage water but also for belance the water system (control water system).      Peatland is a place for reseve and storage water (aquafer) along rainy seasons. In dry seasons peatland released the water did have storage because “evaporation” by the sun). This phenomena is important to prevent the flood in heavy rain and water decrase in long dry seasons (Adrise, 1988).      Peatland is also be able to separates marin area and tasteless water. With keep belancing both of them, motive the infiltrator of sea water into coastal area and dirty sea water can be done and return to the natural circles (Ricley et al. 1996).

Peatland Period and Thickness

     Peatland in Indonesian have been estimate form by hoarding in Holosin period (since 5.000-10.000 years ago). The region of peatland used to flooded area (submergen) or marin (Soekardi and Hidayat, 1988). Peatland in Barambai thickness is 1 meter estimate 2.350 years old. Peatland in Pontianak thickness is 2.5 meter estimate 2.870 years old (Notohadiprawiro, 1981). Peatland in Serawak Malaysia is 4.300 years old with rapid 1 meter for 214 years (Anderson 1969 in Andriesse, 1988. Peatland in Riau (Siak and Bengkalis) is three meter under the surface and eight meter from the upper of the surface and 2.000-6. Years old. Indonesia Climate

As a tropical country Indonesia has temperature level 18 o -27 o celcius. This phenomena occur because: ·          Climate period, as effect from the changes of the wind season along certain period. The period usual for six month. ·          Sea climate, happen because Indonesia has a huge area of sea and that going to evaporation and finally evaporation motive the rain. ·          Hot climate, happen because the side of Indonesia is in tropical area. Greenhouse Gasses and Effect

Indonesian is the third country produced the greenhouse gasses in the world after Unitted State of America and China –Weatland International and Delft Haydraulics in Hooijer et al. (2006). This phenomenon happened because emission Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) is about 2.000 megaton a year. This emission is guess top level in the world. Peat land is have inside (net sink) from carbon. Processing of peat land just like drainage canals, palm oil plantation and also forest fire occurred both of the carbon from biomass on the land and biomass in the tree getting oxidation to carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).
