Peat Definition

    Peat is formed from a stockpile remains of dead plants, either rotted or not. Stockpiles are growing can not go through the process of decomposition by both anaerobic conditions and / or other environmental conditions that cause low level of development of biota decomposers. The formation of peat soil is geogenik process of establishing soil caused by the deposition process and transport. This is different from the process of formation of mineral soil in general is a process pedogenik (Sarwono H and Abdullah 1989).    Taxonomy soil (Soil Survey Staff, 1975) in Halim and Bustoni (1997: 2) defines peat as a soil containing organic material> 20% (if the soil does not contain clay) or take more than 30% (if the soil contains clay> 60%) and cumulative thickness> 40 cm.
